"Cannery Row"

by John Steinbeck

This is one of my top-ten, all-time favourite books. It is not as well known as some of Steinbeck's other novels, but it is a finely crafted miniature which is real study in structure and character.
Going to http://nale.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/ and then clicking on the first item in the table of contents will take you to a photo essay that I have created using my own photos and containing large chunks of text from the novel. It will give you a "taster".

The term: "Homesick" implies a longing for being back home. This review and photo essay makes me youthsick," my term for a nostalgic remembering of my many associations with the shore and interwoven remembrances of characters I've known related to that environment. There are many equivalents to "Cannery Row" in the east as well as that delightful one in the west.
