One day while browsing in a used book store recently, I came across an old edition of Alexander the Great by Peter Green. Military strategists and conquerors have always been of interest to me and so I bought it.
Not only was I surprised by the author's ability to hold my attention chapter after chapter but also by the brilliant pictures of ancient ruins and artifacts that abound in each chapter. I could easily follow the campaigns with the maps provided. It is a fascinating study into the life of a military genius who acceded to the throne at the age of 20, conquered the then known world, and died at the age of 33.
I would highly recommend this book to anyone....not only those interested in conquerors, but also interested in a glimpse of life of that era (356BC-323BC) that it also provides.
