James Patterson wrote this? I have my doubts. . . Did James Patterson really write this or did Maxine Paetro? James Patterson writes page turning thrillers that keep you hanging onto the edge of your chair. This book is more of a adolescent drama queen romance with little action and poorly written mixed plot lines.
To summarize the story, this is another sequel in Mr. Patterson's Women's Murder Club series. You will find that Lindsay Boxer (cop who gets busted from Lt to Sgt. as a "reward" for some guy coming to her door and admitting to a crime) is mourning over her best friend, Claire Washburn, whom had been shot during a wacko murder spree on a ferry near the Golden Gate Bridge. If you are a fan of the Women's Murder Club series then you will know that Claire is an ME and a club member. Further into the story there are kidnappers that have a desire for the children of the wealthy families. While this crime is polluting the neighborhood there is a goon that is petrifying the tenants in an apartment building in San Francisco. The Women's Club must come to grips with all these crimes and solve them. Sounds great on the surface, unfortunately, these different crime stories go off in different directions and the club never really comes together as a unified group to solve these crimes.
Boxer has the hots for some guy named "Joe", but no one bothers to give this guy a last name, job or character description. Who knows?! LOL
She is "crest fallen", flies back to SF and won't see the guy when he shows up following gadzillion frantic calls from her to his cell, home and office phone. She tells him she wants him to move to SF and be married. When he comes back, transferred to SF and with a diamond, she turns him down because she has decided she isn't ready for wedding bells and settling down. PULEEZE!!
The kidnapping "plot" was so poorly written, even an adolescent could see who was doing what and why. No surprise ending here in this story. I just shook my head trying to understand what it was that I had just read. James Patterson is capable of much better. If you're looking for a good read, don't look here.
